John Vitko: Homeland Security and the Priesthood

“People think science and
faith are opposing beliefs,” John says. “Science tells us how things happened, but it doesn’t
explain why.”

John is a physicist who recently retired from Sandia National Laboratories. For the last five
years of that career he was “on loan” to the Department of Homeland Security, where he headed
the Chemical and Biological Defense Division. Now that John is retired, he will soon “follow his
passion” and enter St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary.
