Arc Ecology will host the August 8 & 9, 2008 Mare Faire featuring guided outings about the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve’s historic, natural and scenic features, including stargazing; exhibits; a display of munitions “found” in environmental cleanup; slide presentations and an art show. The highlights will be honoring the 150th anniversary of the oldest naval cemetery in the Pacific, and the 64th anniversary of the Port Chicago Mutiny. Live music in background, good food and even a Friday evening potluck and barbecue and on a clear day, vistas of 7 Bay Area counties, Mt. Diablo, Mt. Tamalpais and San Pablo Bay, promise to make this year’s Mare Faire an exciting opportunity to visit The Preserve until it becomes a permanent regional park of state and national importance.
